 From February 19 to 25 Lake Country Detachment responded to 54 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.

File 2024-9308

February 22 while on patrol on Russell Rd an officer checked the license plate of a parked truck. It was found the license plate was stolen from a dealership in Kelowna. A check of the vehicle identification number found the truck was also stolen, from a school in Rutland. The license plate and vehicle were recovered and returned to their owners after a forensic examination. Police are looking for the suspect and the matter is under investigation.

File 2024-9505

February 23 there was a two vehicle collision on Oceolla Rd near Pretty Rd. An East bound vehicle was slowing to turn left when it was rear ended. The driver of the car that hit the vehicle stated sun glare obscured his vision briefly and he braked too late causing the collision. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed away. Please be aware of your surroundings and drive to the road and environmental conditions.

File 2024-9787

February 24 Lake Country police were received a report of a stolen trailer. A 2021 black Continental box trailer that was being stored at an address on Oyama Rd was stolen between February 21 and early morning February 24. The thief cut a lock off the hitch and towed it away leaving the wheel chocks behind. This trailer is listed as stolen on police data bases and will not be able to be registered or insured. If anyone has seen a trailer as described abandoned please call your local police station.

During this time Lake Country RCMP received six driving complaints ranging from speeding, swerving, slow driving and aggressive driving. When reporting poor driving please try to take note of the license plate, vehicle description and driver description when possible. If the driving behavior is so dangerous that it warrants a violation ticket one can be issued to the registered owner under certain conditions. Police would require the license plate number, vehicle description, time and date of the offence, a brief statement and the caller to attend traffic court if the registered owner disputed the ticket. Police cannot be everywhere however will investigate complaints from the public and are more than happy to work with callers to increase driver awareness and road safety.
