Richmond RCMP are conducting increased traffic enforcement this week in support of Canada Road Safety Week. Canada Road Safety Week is a 7-day national campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This year it runs from May 17 to May 23.

This annual awareness campaign is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada’s roads. This public safety initiative is part of a larger national effort to help advance Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025 to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world. The focus of this campaign continues to be on the elimination of impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and driving without a seat belt.

This year’s campaign entitled Safer You. Safer Me focuses on how a driver’s decisions not only impacts them but also their passengers, other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Too many drivers make choices based on the level of risk they are personally willing to accept, with a total disregard for the risk they pose to others.

Between January and April this year, Richmond RCMP has issued 321 violation tickets for speed related issues and distracted driving.

Richmond RCMP is proud to be participating in this year’s Canada Road Safety Campaign. We are confident that our local efforts will help make the roads here in Richmond amongst the safest in Canada.
