Inspector Vaz Kassam, North Vancouver RCMP's new Operations Officer, spent a couple of shifts working on the road this past week. "It was a chance for me and the frontline officers and support staff to get to know one another," said Inspector Kassam. "It was also part of my introduction to the community in my new role at the Detachment."

After spending the past few years in charge of the Real Time Intelligence Centre – British Columbia (RTIC-BC), working behind the scenes to provide relevant background information in real time to officers responding to serious incidents, the move to North Van represents a move back into the vanguard of police operations. As part of the introduction to his new role overseeing frontline operations in North Van, Inspector Kassam rode with different officers during day and night shifts, which had him stepping back into the familiar patterns of grassroots policing.

"Being out there with the team reminded me how every day and night, every hour, our frontline staff pull over cars, interact with people who have called 911, search for suspects, and so much more. They place themselves in harm's way and face difficult, even scary situations, all to keep our community safe." said Kassam. "As the Operations Officer, I have a great deal of respect for their commitment. As a resident of North Vancouver, I'm grateful for their service."
