The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 326 calls for service from Friday March 15 to 9 a.m. on Monday March 18, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Vehicle impound: prohibited driver

Proactive patrols on Ricardo Road led to a Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment officer locating a prohibited driver known to police.

On March 17, 2024, around 5 p.m., a frontline officer was on patrol when he recognized a truck associated to a Kamloops man he knew to have a driving prohibition. As part of the investigation, the officer confirmed the driver’s identity, issued him a court date to answer to the new charge, and under the Motor Vehicle Act, impounded the vehicle, which was registered to someone else.

Stolen vehicle in Aberdeen

A person woke up Sunday morning to find their garage open and their vehicle missing.

On March 17, 2024, around 8:15 a.m., Kamloops RCMP officers were called to the 900-block of Greystone Crescent, where a grey Honda Pilot, BC licence plate LA 517P was taken overnight, along with a purse and house keys. The vehicle was equipped with a Thule hardcover on top, containing camping gear. Financial cards from the purse were later used at gas stations in Kamloops and Vernon.

Break and enter

Chips and salsa were stolen during a break and enter this weekend.

On March 17, 2024, around 10:30 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of the break-in at a storage bay on the 1700-block of Kelly Douglas Road, which occurred sometime between 2 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Approximately $500 of chips and salsa were taken.

Wanted man arrested and charged with new offences

Reports of an erratic driver led Kamloops police to a man wanted on two arrest warrants this weekend, who is now facing a series of new charges.

On Friday March 15, 2024, around 8:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the area of 5th Avenue and Victoria Street, where a vehicle was reported to have almost struck a pedestrian. Police located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly took off, before leaving it and fleeing on foot. He was arrested following a foot pursuit which led police down 8th Avenue, onto Seymour, and into the alley of St. Paul Street.

The suspect, a Kamloops man in his 30s, was held in custody for the warrants, along with the following new charges: assault police officer, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and obstruct police. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance date.

Compound broken into

The Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment is investigating a recent break and enter targeting work truck storage boxes.

On March 15, 2024, around 9:15 a.m., police attended a commercial location on the 700-block of Athabasca Street East, where thieves had cut through a chain link fence to gain access into a compound. Tools including a laser level, power drill, and a socket set were among the items stolen.
