Police investigate ‘shot’ fired report in Valleyview

A motel in Valleyview was evacuated and searched following a report of a gun shot heard yesterday morning.
On Monday Oct. 4, 2021 around 10:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the Police Dog Service Unit attended the 1700-block of the East Trans-Canada Highway in Valleyview in response to the sound, which was also heard by other residents.
As a result of the police presence and out of an abundance of caution, police recommended a nearby daycare be put on a hold and secure while police investigated. Traffic was rerouted and residents were requested to please avoid area.
Each room in the motel was evacuated and searched. No injuries or signs confirming a gun shot were located. Just before 3:30 p.m. ERT concluded its initial response and turned over the remaining investigation to Kamloops RCMP frontline officers.

Heavy police presence near 1700 block East Trans-Canada Highway in Valleyview
Kamloops Frontline Officers, with the assistance of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team
(ERT) and Police Service Dog Unit responded to an incident at a local motel.
Just before 3:30 p.m., ERT concluded their initial response and will turn over the remaining investigation to Kamloops Frontline Officers. At this time there is no risk to public.
As a result of the police presence and out of an abundance of caution, police recommended a
nearby daycare to be put on a hold and secure while police continue to investigate.
Traffic continues to be re-routed and residents are encouraged to please refrain from attending the
area. The Kamloops RCMP wishes to thank the public for their cooperation as this incident unfolds.
As police are still on scene investigating no further information will be released and an updated
media release can be expected tomorrow.

Heavy police presence on the frontage road of East Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview
Kamloops RCMP Frontline Officers are currently responding to a police incident in the 1700 clock of
the East Trans Canada Highway.
Some traffic may temporarily be rerouted and residents are pleased asked to avoid this area while
police conduct their investigation.
An updated media release will be prepared as soon as practicable and any media inquires can be
