File # 2021-27842 and 2021-27836

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is asking drivers to please check their dash cam footage after two fires were put out on Columbia Street yesterday.

Around 3:30 p.m., Aug. 11, 2021, frontline officers attended a grass fire on the 300-block of Columbia Street, followed by a second one on Columbia Street West about 35 minutes later. In both cases, the fires were quickly put out by Kamloops Fire and Rescue.

A suspect has been identified and police are investigating.

Anyone who was travelling in the area of Columbia Street to 3rd Street, as well as Columbia Street West to Sahali Terrace, is asked to please check their dash cam footage to see if it captured anything between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. that may be related to the investigation.

If you saw anything or captured video of anyone lighting a fire or behaving suspiciously, maybe leaving an area quickly, please let us know, said Constable Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

Please call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-27842.
