Man missing and presumed drowned in Mara Lake

A 64-year-old man is missing and presumed drowned following an incident on Mara Lake yesterday.

On Wednesday August 11 at approximately 4:00 p.m. Sicamous RCMP was notified of a possible drowning in Mara Lake near Turtle Bay. Sicamous RCMP responded on the detachment vessel along with the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue from unit #106 which is based in Shuswap.

The investigation has determined that the Red Deer Alberta man was last seen by a witness in distress while swimming in the deep water near his boat,

Private boats assisted in the search however the missing man was not located and is presumed drowned.

"We have requested assistance from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team who will attend and attempt to locate and recover the victim, states Sgt. Murray McNeil. "Our thoughts remain with his family."
