Ryan Stayner, a 35-year-old man from Langley has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death following a single vehicle collision in Coquitlam.
On Sunday August 16, 2020, at 11:15 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP responded to a vehicle collision on the westbound off-ramp to Highway One at Brunette Avenue. A 2019 Dodge Ram entered the off-ramp when the driver of the vehicle struck the concrete barrier. As a result of the collision, a 30-year-old Surrey woman who was the passenger in the vehicle died from her injuries.
Coquitlam RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigative Team (CCIT) began an exhaustive and detailed investigation to understand the circumstances of the event. Investigators interviewed witnesses, obtained search warrants and conducted vehicle examinations, which provided details of the events leading up to the collision. Based on the totality of the evidence reviewed, the RCMP submitted the total investigative findings to the BC Prosecution Service for review of appropriate charges against the driver of the Dodge Ram.
At this time police would like to thank the many witnesses who provided valuable information during this investigation, says Cst. Deanna Law.
On August 4, 2021, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of dangerous operation causing death contrary to section 320.13 (3) Criminal Code. Ryan Stayner will appear in court on a date yet to be determined.

Police will continue to conduct proactive traffic enforcement to keep the roadways safe.
