Update #53 on police enforcement of injunction order in Fairy Creek Watershed

Police enforcement of the BC Supreme Court injunction order in the Fairy Creek Watershed area continued today, on July 17, 2021.

9 people were subsequently arrested for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court).

8 persons were processed and released in Port Renfrew. While 1 of the people had been previously arrested for breaching the injunction, and therefore, is being held in custody to appear before the Supreme Court in Nanaimo at a later date.

Of note a 10th person, found to be wanted on a Canada-wide Warrant issued by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), was also arrest. That person was held in police custody on the strength of those immigration warrants.

Since enforcement began, the RCMP have now arrested 442 individuals; at least 28 of whom were previously arrested. Of the total arrested to date, 333 were for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court), 84 were for obstruction, 10 were for mischief, 3 were for breaching their release conditions, 4 for assaulting a police officer, 1 for counselling to resist arrest, and 1 wanted Canada-wide on warrants issued by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
