B.C., Lake Cowichan

2021-06-24 21:22 PDT

Today, on June 24, 2021, police enforcement continued at an encampment in the Braden Mainline Forest Service Road area near Port Renfrew.

During the course of the day, a total of 10 individuals were arrested; 7 of whom for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court), and 3 for obstruction. Of note, 1 of those arrested today removed themselves voluntarily from their locking device.

All arrested persons were processed at the Lake Cowichan RCMP Detachment.

There were also 4 individuals who were not removed today from their locking devices, after officers determined those individuals are able to free themselves voluntarily by unlocking from their non-permanent fixtures. A re-assessment will be made tomorrow or in subsequent days.

Since enforcement began, the RCMP have now arrested 301 individuals; at least 12 of whom were previously arrested. Of the 301 total arrested, 228 were for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court), 65 were for obstruction, 4 were for mischief, 2 were for breaching their release conditions, 1 for counselling to resist arrest and 1 for assaulting a police officer.

All news releases on the Fairy Creek Watershed police enforcement issued to date can be found on the Lake Cowichan RCMP Detachment website.
