Update #32 on police enforcement of injunction order in Fairy Creek Watershed

Today, on June 23, 2021, police enforcement continued at an encampment in the Braden Mainline Forest Service Road area near Port Renfrew.
During the course of the day, a total of 20 individuals were arrested; 15 adults and 1 minor were arrested for obstruction, 2 adults were arrested for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court), and 2 adults were arrested for breaching their release conditions not to return to the area when they were previously arrested.
All persons were processed at the Lake Cowichan RCMP Detachment. The one arrested minor was released to their parent/guardian.
We would like the public to be aware that an open fire prohibition came into effect at noon Pacific Time today, June 23, 2021 throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, to help reduce wildfire risk. Please visit the BC Wildfire Service website for further information, as well as the local government authorities for additional fire restrictions.
Since enforcement began, the RCMP have now arrested 291 individuals; at least 10 of whom were previously arrested. Of the 291 total arrested, 221 were for breaching the injunction (civil contempt of court), 62 were for obstruction, 4 were for mischief, 2 were for breaching their release conditions, 1 for counselling to resist arrest and 1 for assaulting a police officer.
