The Kelowna RCMP in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), are taking part in Canada Road Safety Week.
On Monday May 12, 2025 the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit conducted a proactive traffic enforcement campaign within school zones in Kelowna. Police enforced traffic initiatives and educated motorists about safe driving measures, all to save lives and reduce injuries.
The results of the school zone campaign included issuing the following violation tickets:
- 48 school zone infractions for speeding, including one motorist travelling at 67km/hr,
- 15 distracted driving related tickets for use of an electronic device while driving,
- 1 ticket for failure to wear a seatbelt,
- 1 ticket for tinted front side windows,
- 1 prohibited driver notice,
- 3 other Motor Vehicle Act offences,
- 9 drivers received verbal warnings.
In addition, one prohibited driver was arrested for being behind the wheel and driving a motor vehicle.
We are listening to the concerns of the public and are committed to targeting high-risk areas—particularly school zones—to ensure the safety of our community,
says Sgt Kyle Ushock of the RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit.
Kelowna RCMP will continue to work with our partners like the Integrated Road Safety Unit on future projects to focus on impairment, distracted and aggressive driving, and driving without a seatbelt.
