Everyone's heard of bait cars, but bait lockers? The City of Richmond and the Richmond RCMP have teamed up to prevent theft from lockers by adapting the highly successful Bait Cars program to the changing rooms of community centers and pools.
Legitimate lockers in both male and female change rooms have been fitted with alarms. If a bait locker is forced open, a loud alarm will sound to notify staff to contact the Police.
Signs have been placed in the change rooms to notify the public what to do in the event of an alarm and to act as a warning to potential thieves that they might get caught.
Remember: be careful what belongings you bring to the community centers and pools - it is best to leave expensive jewellery and extra identification at home.
