CPEC - Community Prevention Education Continuum is a drug-prevention framework that is grounded in the principles of prevention and engages the strengths of the community.

CPEC is about community mobilization, bringing people together within a community or region, working together towards a common goal - Healthy Youth.

CPEC is designed as a sustainable community-lead, police-assisted, comprehensive youth drug prevention strategy. It is a continuum of prevention education, building protective factors (External link, opens in a new windowDevelopmental Assets), encompassing youth from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

As the foundation of CPEC, we offer D.A.R.E., a social skills program taught primarily at the Grade 5 level to help equip children with information that encourages a drug-free lifestyle. However, this one component alone cannot be expected to achieve what a DOCAS officer working helping a student with a DOCAS assignmentcomprehensive strategy is designed to accomplish.

The CPEC is a flexible crime prevention strategy developed to address the drug issues and meet the needs of individual communities. It is designed as a supportive network whereby each individual, initiative, program, organization or business is important and connected to each other in support of healthy youth.

The RCMP DOCAS coordinators are committed to assist you and your community to develop your own CPEC. Please contact the DOCAS coordinator in your area for more information or to find out how you can become involved.
