Records Department

The Mission RCMP Detachment Records department uses the Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME-BC) which connects every municipal police department and RCMP detachment throughout the province and provides access to information about criminals and crimes instantly to all police agencies.

Requesting Records From Police Files

The RCMP do not give out copies of police files. The only details which are released to the general public by Records staff are the file number and the name of the member who attended. If you do not have a file number available when calling the Records Department for information please have as much of the following information available as possible and contact us at (604) 826-7161.

  1. Date of offence
  2. Address where offence occurred
  3. License plate number(s) if vehicle involved
  4. Your surname, given names and date of birth

If you require further details you must make a formal request under the Access to Information Act or obtain a Court Order for release of the complete file (this is done through a lawyer). Alternatively you may wish to speak to the investigating member who with discretion may respond to your request.

Forms to submit a formal request for information under the Access to Information Act are available upon request from our Detachment or online at the Treasury Board of Canada's website.

ATIP Ottawa will then request the file(s) from the Detachment. They will review the file and respond to your request. This will take approximately 1-3 months.

Motor Vehicle Accident Reports

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident to which the police attended and you did not receive a copy of the MV6020 (accident report) at the scene, you may attend the Detachment at 7171 Oliver Street, Mission, B.C. for your copy or request that it be mailed. It is suggested that you check first with us to ensure that the report has been completed and is available. It is the responsibility of ICBC to request any further information (photos, diagrams etc) from us and if you have retained legal counsel, your lawyer can also request some parts of the file without a Court Order.

Disclosure of Information from Operational Case Records

As per the Privacy Act of Canada (sections 8(1) Privacy Act and 10(c) Privacy Regulation) the RCMP may disclose the personal information of individuals to other individuals/agencies, either via consent of the individual or through the non-consent provisions in section 8(2).
