School Sports Program

School Sports Program

The Surrey RCMP School Sports Program connects police officers with Grade 7 students in elementary schools across the city. Team RCMP consists of a group of officers who volunteer their time approximately once a week at a different school. Their goal is to foster a positive relationship with students before they enter high school, and have fun while doing so.

Students choose the game. Whether it is basketball, floor hockey, handball – Team RCMP is up for the challenge.  started the program over 16 years ago and has seen the excitement around the games grow over the years.

It’s great to see a packed gymnasium with kids from kindergarten to grade 7 cheering on their favourite team. There are flags, signs, and some very loud screaming fans!

At the end of the games, players hand out the very popular Team RCMP sport cards and choose two students who exemplified the qualities of sportsmanship. At the end of the school year, a School Spirit Award trophy is presented to the school that shows the best spirit and sportsmanship." Staff Sergeant Mike Spencer.
