Intoxicated and in distress:

On August 10th, 2023, Kitimat RCMP received multiple reports of a man who was laying on the side of the highway appearing to be intoxicated and asking for help. Kitimat RCMP officers responded to the call and located the man who had consumed hand sanitizer and had also injured himself on a fall. Police brought the man to the hospital where he was admitted for further care. (2023-3018)

Significant drug seizure:

On August 11th, 2023, Kitimat RCMP executed a search warrant in Kitimat where over $25,000 in Canadian currency and 1.1 Kilograms of suspected cocaine as well as other items related to drug trafficking was seized. One man was arrested at the scene and later released. The file is still under investigations with charges pending. (2023-3027)

Mischief:

On August 12, 2023, Kitimat RCMP received a report of two intoxicated males who were causing a disturbance and refusing to leave at a local pub. Police attended and located the two males, noting damage to a window of the pub. A witness identified one of the males as damaging the window. The male was arrested for mischief and later released with a date to attend court for the matter. (2023-3044)

Unlicensed driver:

August 13, 2023 a member of the Kitimat RCMP was conducting patrols noting a vehicle with an open gas cap driving by. The officer conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver was served a violation ticket for no driver’s license as well as an outstanding driving prohibition. The vehicle was also towed and impounded for 7 days. (2023-3060)

24 Hour driving prohibition by drug:

August 14, 2023 while conducting regular patrols, an officer of the Kitimat RCMP noted a vehicle stopped for an excessive amount of time, that rapidly accelerated around a corner into the oncoming lane after another vehicle went around it. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was screened for alcohol and drug. The alcohol screening came back as zero, however the man performed poorly on the drug screening. The man was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was also towed and impounded for 24 hours. (2023-3067)

Impaired driver:

August 15, 2023 a vehicle was observed swerving and hitting the curb while turning a corner. A Police Officer of the Kitimat RCMP conducted a traffic stop and noted symptoms of alcohol consumption. The driver further admitted to consuming multiple alcoholic beverages. Alcohol screening was conducted on an Approved Screening Device, and the driver provided two successful samples, both resulting in a Fail. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days. (2023-3071)

Fraud alert:

August 17, 2023 Kitimat RCMP was notified of a local business that was defrauded of $4,500 after they received a call requesting funds for fire extinguishers, however the manager did not arrange this. This is the second similar fraudulent instance in a short period of time.


Kitimat RCMP would like to remind our community members to always verify with the source, whether that be a supervisor, relative or other when money is requested. Please use extra caution when there is a specified request for gift cards or bitcoin type payments. Any fraudulent attempts can be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

You will stay anonymous and if your tip leads to an arrest, you may receive a reward of up to $2000.
