Vehicle Stop Leads to Firearm Seizure

On October 13th, 2017, at approximately 7:00 pm, officers of the Crime Reduction Unit and General Duty Uniform Unit targeted a known subject who may be unlawfully in possession of a firearm.
The investigation resulted in the stop of a vehicle near Williams Lake and arrest of an identified person. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded SKS rifle and multiple 20 round plus magazines.
The suspect is a known local female from the Williams Lake area and the name is not being release pending charges being approved by Crown Counsel. The suspect was released and is scheduled to appear in court on February 14th, 2018. This investigation is continuing and still remains in its early stages.
The Crime Reduction Unit and General Duty Section are committed and remain dedicated to the strategies of focusing on making our community safer. Removing this type of firearm and prohibited device from an unlawful possession is just one example of preventing potential violence by our officers.
