A member at the West Shore RCMP Detachment initiated a good deed last December after meeting with staff of Choices - an affiliation of Our Place Society, an inner-city community centre serving Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable: working poor, impoverished elderly, mentally and physically challenged, addicted and the homeless. Members and staff of the West Shore RCMP Detachment generously donated clothing of all sorts to the organization.
The response at the West Shore RCMP detachment was immediate and several large bags of clothing were delivered to the organization. The donations included jackets, pants, t-shirts, dress shirts, sweaters, shorts, shoes, boots, gloves, scarfs, toques and even some children's clothing.
In the next several days the very cold weather started and lasted several weeks making these clothing donation even more important for the individuals attending Our Place Society to obtain more clothing to layer up for their daily lives.
Police officers have a mandate to help and protect their communities, regardless of their background, culture or social class. In this case, it was about donating clothing to those in need.
