File # 2017- 182646
One man has been charged with several serious offences after he allegedly shot another man in the Surrey City Centre area just before Christmas (see previous news release).
On December 23rd, 2017 at 8:50 pm it’s alleged that Son Thai LU entered a coffee shop located in the 13500 block of 105th Avenue and shot another man before fleeing the scene. LU, 34 years old from Surrey, was known to the victim and is also known to police. The victim received serious injuries and is still recovering.
The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading this investigation. With assistance from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC), LU was located and arrested on December 27th. Officers continue to investigate the matter and have submitted their preliminary findings to Crown Counsel. LU has been formally charged with one count of each of the following offences and will be appearing in court today:
- Attempted Murder
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Pointing a Firearm
The shooting appears to have been motivated by a disagreement between the two men, says Corporal Scotty Schumann.
There is no known link to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict and we’re thankful no one else was injured.
