File # 2017-105921
Surrey RCMP advises that a prolific robbery offender has been captured and charged following a recent spate of bank robberies that spanned three Lower Mainland jurisdictions.
On August 30th, 2017, Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit, with assistance from the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT), arrested a 34 year old resident of Surrey for allegedly committing eight bank robberies across the Lower Mainland. The suspect had been arrested by IMPACT earlier in the day in a stolen vehicle in Surrey, before subsequently being arrested by the Surrey RCMP for the robberies.
Jared MCCLURE has now been charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle (x1) and Robbery (x6) for a series of bank robberies that occurred between July 31st and August 21st in Surrey, Coquitlam, and Vancouver.
Thanks to a combination of forensic evidence, video surveillance, witness accounts, and information sharing amongst local police agencies, a suspect was quickly identified and arrested. The investigation is ongoing as officers from multiple Lower Mainland cities work together to determine if the suspect may be responsible for additional robberies in the region.
This is a great example of collaboration amongst police departments to identify and arrest a prolific offender targeting financial institutions across the Lower Mainland, says Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant Dale Carr.
The frequency of this individual’s crimes and the risk he posed to public safety cannot be overlooked. These type of offenders are often involved in other crimes in the community and have little regard for others’ safety.
There have been thirteen bank robberies in Surrey this year and ten of these have resulted in charges being laid against alleged suspects.
