Surrey RCMP resolved a standoff peacefully after negotiating with a suspect who is alleged to have shot another man earlier in the evening.
On June 3, 2017 at 7:15 pm, Surrey RCMP was called to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of 176th Street. Police found one man who had been shot allegedly by another man who was still in the area. Both the men were known to each other. The victim was transported to hospital and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers contained the area while police negotiators attempt to contact the suspect. At approximately 11:50 pm the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
176th Street was closed to traffic in both directions between 8th Avenue and 16th Avenue during the incident.
Safety of the public is paramount as is the well-being of the suspect, says Corporal Scotty Schumann.
This incident resolved peacefully thanks to the skills and abilities of the officers involved.
