File # 2017-37094
Shortly before 6:30 pm on November 12th, 2017, Richmond RCMP officers responded to the 11000 block of Bridgeport Rd for a serious collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle.
The pedestrian, a 54-year old woman from Richmond, was struck by a gray 2013 Acura SUV driven by a 59-year old male from Surrey. The driver of the Acura stayed on scene and attempted to render assistance to the pedestrian. The driver has been cooperative with police. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital. She has since succumbed to her injuries.
Neither speed, nor alcohol are contributing factors in this fatal collision. The pedestrian did not appear to have been crossing in a designated area.
The investigation has been assumed by the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARs) and the BC Coroner’s Service.
This is Richmond’s 4th pedestrian fatality of 2017.
The Richmond RCMP would like to remind all users of our roadways to please exhibit extra caution whether driving, walking, running, or cycling, says Corporal Dennis Hwang.
The inclement weather and early darkness can add to an already challenging environment.
