Three vehicle Motor vehicle incident with fatality

At 12:30 pm on Thursday December 21, 2017 the Revelstoke Detachment received several 911 calls regarding a three vehicle accident approximately 40 Km west of Revelstoke close to the Craigalliche rest area. Information received was of three vehicles involved and multiple injuries. Police Officers and BCAS arrived and located three vehicles, spread in different direction, speaking to a head on collision. In the three vehicles there were several seriously injured persons, including one female entrapped and determined deceased. A dog was also found deceased at the scene. Two males were in various states of critical condition. Persons in the third vehicle appeared to have only minor or no injuries. The injured parties have been brought to either the Revelstoke Queen Victoria Hospital or to Salmon] Arm or Kamloops by BCAS.

In attendance at the incident are the Revelstoke General Duty Detachment Police Officers, British Columbia Ambulance Service, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service, Ministry of Transportation, EMCO and a local flagging company. The British Columbia Coroner Service is also present at the scene. In addition the Revelstoke Integrated Road Safety Unit is assisting with the investigation. The incident will continue to be investigated by the Trans-Canada East Traffic Service as well as the Southeast District Traffic Analyst.

The Road closure is expected for several hours, with possible re-opening by 7 pm. Delay is due to address well-being of patients, clearing up road conditions, police examination of the scene, final clean up and then a safe and measured re-opening. There are no detours available.

Police suggest that the public should check driving conditions prior to commencing travels through mountain areas in the winter. Vehicles should be inspected prior to highway travel to ensure they are safe for the variable winter driving road and weather conditions. As always, a safe vehicle has the proper tread depth of quality winter rated tires.
