North Vancouver RCMP eager to reunite found cash with rightful owner

North Vancouver RCMP are hoping to reunite a sizeable sum of cash with the rightful owner.

Enclosed inside a brown envelope, the cash was found in front of North Vancouver City Library at 120 West 14th Street and subsequently turned in to the detachment front counter by a good Samaritan on March 6, 2024.

"We’re grateful that this money was turned in and eager to return it to the person that lost it," said Cst. Mansoor Sahak, spokesperson for the North Vancouver RCMP.

"We’ll need the owner to tell us the amount of money that was in the envelope, the denominations, the currencies, and a reasonable explanation of when, where and how they lost it. And no, telling us the bills are rectangular, or that they’re in denominations of either $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100 won’t cut it."

Police are also urging people to refrain from contacting them and guessing the total amount in hopes of getting the cash. "If we had a dollar for every time we’ve been contacted by individuals claiming valuables ‘might’ be theirs when in fact they were not, we’d have more than a few dollars," said Sahak. "It goes without saying, but please do not make false claims in hopes of making a quick buck. That would be unkind. It would also be fraud, which is a crime."

The person who lost the money is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-4282.
