File # 2017-12-06

In honour of the December 6th National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women, the public is invited to attend the Ground Blessing Ceremony of the ‘Strength & Remembrance Pole Project’.

This event is being held on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stella Joe Dean Plaza, 147 East 14th Street, North Vancouver, located beside the North Vancouver RCMP Detachment.

With leadership from the North Shore ‘Violence Against Women in Relationships’ (VAWIR), the ‘Strength and Remembrance Pole Project’ was founded. The project will be highlighted with the carving of a 20-foot tall totem pole that will reflect the National Day of Remembrance, the murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, and all the women who suffer in silence. The carving will commence once the ground blessing ceremony has been witnessed on December 6th.

The North Vancouver RCMP Domestic Violence Unit has been a part of the VAWIR committee along with the planning of the ‘Strength & Remembrance Pole Project’.
