File # 2017
With summer weather upon us, National Safe Boating Awareness Week starts from May 20th to the 26th to remind us on how to stay safe on the water. Not only do we need to be aware this week, we need to ensure that you are ready to go out on the water safely all summer long!
The North Vancouver RCMP patrol vessel (pictured above) will be actively patrolling both the water and the local boat launches to conduct safety checks. All types of watercraft will be checked to ensure that all boaters are adhering to the applicable regulations.
For more information on the regulations, please visit the Canadian Safe Boating Council website and Transport Canada's Marine Transportation website.
Here are a few simple safety tips to remember:
- Wear a Life Jacket
- Don't Drink and Boat
- Take a Boating Course
- Be Prepared - Both you and your vessel
- Be Aware of the Dangers of Cold Water Immersion
As Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP stated,
whether you are fishing, crabbing or recreational boating, our goal is to ensure that you do in a safe and law abiding manner. Enjoy the weather and have a safe summer.
