The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 300 calls for service from Friday Jan. 19 to 9 a.m. on Monday Jan. 22, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Check well-being: man arrested

2024-2054

A man reported to be banging on a restaurant window while moaning and groaning ended up in cells to sober up safely.

On Jan. 21, 2024, around 11:15 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers and the Integrated Crisis Response Team (ICRT), responded to a request to check the well-being of the man on the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive. Officers located the man asleep in the snow nearby. Following an assessment, the man’s behaviour was determined to be the result of intoxication, not a mental health crisis.

The man was checked by ambulance, then arrested for cause a disturbance, lodged in cells, and released when sobered without process.

Police investigate assault

Kamloops police arrested a man following reports of an assault in progress on the North Shore.

On Sunday Jan. 21, 2024, around 4:45 p.m., police were called to Thrupp Street and Mackenzie Avenue where a woman had allegedly been assaulted and threatened. Officers located and arrested a suspect nearby. He was taken to cells and released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

Police presence in downtown building

A brief foot pursuit in an apartment building ended with one man arrested.

On Jan. 21, around 2:30 a.m., police responded to an address on the 400-block of St. Paul Street, where a man had allegedly assaulted a person and was causing problems. Multiple officers attended and located the suspect, known to police, fleeing in a stairwell.

He was captured by officers shortly after in the foyer, where he resisted arrest and attempted to assault police. A can of bear spray was also located in his possession and seized. The victim was uncooperative with the investigation and the man was released from custody once sobered.

Impaired driver

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a motor vehicle collision involving a power pole on Sunday.

On Jan. 21, 2024 around 3:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the area of Westsyde and Serle roads, where a truck had struck a power pole. Kamloops Fire and Rescue were also on scene. No injuries were noted.

As part of the investigation, officers conducted a roadside breath test on the driver, which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading, indicating a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08. A Kamloops woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Woman arrested for robbery

A woman turned herself into police on Saturday and was arrested for alleged offences including assault causing bodily arm, pointing a firearm, and robbery.

The woman was taken into custody on Jan. 20, 2024 following a report from Jan. 19, 2024, which alleged a person had entered a motel room on the 1800-block of the Trans Canada Highway East with what appeared to be a firearm, robbed its occupants of cash, and made threats. The arrest was also related to a report from Jan. 3, 2024, in which the same person had been suspected in an incident from Jan. 2.

Police later released the suspect with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated following the ongoing investigations.
