The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 328 calls for service from Friday Dec. 8 to 9 a.m. on Monday Dec. 11, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault downtown

Kamloops police are looking for a suspect as part of an assault investigation from this weekend.

On Dec. 9, 2023, around 1:40 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 300-block of Victoria Street, where a man was asked to leave a commercial establishment, at which point he allegedly assaulted two people outside. At least one of the victims attended the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a stocky male, approximately 5’10, wearing a white t-shirt. Anyone with information related to this ongoing investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-43332.

Police investigate assault

Witnesses to an assault on the 400-block of Victoria Street Saturday are asked to please connect with police if they haven’t already.

On Dec. 9, 2023, around 2:20 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of an assault near a downtown eatery. According to the investigation so far, an altercation began inside the commercial location, then escalated when three men allegedly followed another man outside and assaulted him. The victim attended hospital for injuries received.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed or has information, including video, that may be related to this incident and has not yet contacted police, is asked to please do so by calling 250-828-3000 and referencing file 2023-43334.

Assault and mischief arrest

A man had to sober up in cells Saturday afternoon after police were called to a disturbance report on the 200-block of Chancellor Drive.

On Dec. 9, 2023, around 4:20 p.m., several Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended a residence in which a man had allegedly broken glass and assaulted other residents during a drug-induced psychosis. The suspect was cooperative with police, and was arrested without incident for assault and mischief.

He was lodged in cells until sober, then assessed by the Integrated Crisis Response Team prior to his release.

Disturbance on Sunnycrest

Reports of a woman pounding on doors and breaking glass led to an arrest on Sunnycrest Avenue this Saturday.

On Dec. 9, 2023, just before midnight, police attended the avenue’s 2000-block and found a vehicle that had crashed into some bushes. As part of the investigation, officers located a woman at a residence nearby. While police were present, the woman allegedly began to assault others in an address, and was arrested.

She was lodged in cells to prevent continuation of the offence, then later released without process.

Commercial break and enter

Police are investigating a break-in on Notre Dame Drive, reported in the early hours of Sunday morning.

On Dec. 10, 2023, around 4:40 a.m., Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were called to a commercial location on the 700-block of Notre Dame for a report of a break and enter in progress. Police attended and observed a door had been pried opened. A suspect was detained nearby, but released pending further investigation.

Assault with a weapon downtown

A report of a man beating another with a baseball bat resulted in a police presence on Victoria Street Sunday morning.

On Dec. 10, 2023, around 7:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 100-block of Victoria Street in response to the report. Several people were arrested as part of the investigation, then later released without process. A victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but was uncooperative. Police checks revealed the victim was also wanted on arrest warrants, and he was taken into custody following his medical treatment.

Bike rider arrested for breach

A series of bicycle Motor Vehicle Act infractions led to police discovering a man who was allegedly failing to comply with his probation order

On Monday Dec. 11, 2023, around 4:10 a.m., a police officer was conducting proactive patrols on the North Shore when he observed a cyclist who failed to stop for a red light on Tranquille Road, had no lights affixed to his bike, and was not wearing a helmet. The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the man was not in compliance of his court-ordered curfew.

The man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.
