In just under two weeks, three Burnaby RCMP members will be riding in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast Greater Vancouver, an 800 km ride spanning nine days along the coast of British Columbia. Sergeant Tess Landry, Sergeant Derek Thibodeau and Corporal Michael Kalanj have committed themselves to the Cops for Cancer mission of raising money for children and their families who are struggling with cancer.

Cops for Cancer is an avid supporter of Camp Goodtimes, a camp in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, which provides a medically supervised and fun experience for children and youth battling cancer. According to Sgt. Tess Landry, who is also a Tour de Coast Captain, said this is an amazing place for these amazing kids! It costs $1,500 to send one kid to camp! I think all kids going through this journey should have an opportunity to experience this incredible place.

Over the past few months, Sgt. Landry, Sgt. Thibodeau and Cpl. Kalanj have been concentrating their efforts on training and raising funds for the Tour. The fundraising portion of their efforts will culminate in a Jail and Bail event set to take place at 10 a.m. on September 15, 2017 at Lougheed Town Centre. Local celebrities will be jailed and must raise enough money to post bail before they can be released from jail. This will be a fun community event that will bring awareness and fund life-saving research that improves cancer treatments, prevents cancer and saves lives. We encourage everyone to come out support this event on Friday, September 15, 2017.

On September 20th, 40 riders from law enforcement and emergency services will cycle for two weeks along the coast of British Columbia. All proceeds raised from the fundraising activities go to pediatric cancer research and programs for children and families living with cancer.
