Help Burnaby RCMP lock out vehicle crime this Christmas
2017-12-18 14:29 PST
Anything left in your vehicle is a target for thieves; that is the message that Burnaby RCMP want you to know this holiday season. Even if you’re under time pressure when shopping this Christmas, Burnaby RCMP is asking that you remain vigilant and follow the tips below:
- Before leaving your vehicle, make sure all doors and windows are locked.
- Where possible, park your vehicle in a secure garage or parkade. If that’s not possible then try park in a well-lit area.
- Never leave spare keys, garage door openers or building fobs in your vehicle.
- Never leave anything in plain view or in known hiding spots in your vehicle (i.e. under the seat or in the glove compartment)
The following is a list of the top ten items stolen from vehicles:
- Electronic Devices
- Work tools
- Stereo equipment
- Cash / change
- Car parts
- Garage door openers
In conjunction with ICBC, the Burnaby RCMP's Crime Prevention Unit has produced a Vehicle Crime Prevention booklet that can be picked up at any of the Community Police Offices in Burnaby or from the main detachment. The booklet includes great tips and folds out to a sign that can be placed on your seat when you’re away from your vehicle to deter thieves.
