The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) continue to assist the Oak Bay Police Department with a double homicide which occurred on Beach Drive in Oak Bay on Christmas Day.

VIIMCU is a specialized major crime unit with contribution from RCMP, Oak Bay, Saanich, Central Saanich and Victoria PD.

A male remains in hospital and is being treated for his injuries. He is not in police custody at this time.
Although we can appreciate the public’s interest in this matter, the Federal Privacy Act prevents us from releasing names of those involved unless charges have been laid or the public’s assistance is required to further an investigation. As neither of these apply, further information cannot be provided.

At this time, there are no further updates but the investigation remains ongoing.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends. This tragedy has touched many people in the community and beyond, first responders included.

In response to community concerns about our first responders, Oak Bay Deputy Chief, Ray Bernoties states, While our focus and that of the community needs to be on the loved ones who are suffering such a devastating loss as well as the greater impact within our community, I can assure you that we have engaged experts in the field of critical incident stress management and we’re following every step of their counsel and our Critical Incident Stress Model to ensure our officers are very well cared for.
