Over a three day period from November 20-22, 2017, members of the Central Interior Traffic Services joined forces with additional enforcement officers from RCMP E Division Roving Traffic Services, North Okanagan Traffic Services and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Officers. Check-stops were established along Highway 5 between the communities of Barriere and Blue River for the duration of the project.

Officers removed 5 Impaired Driver’s and one prohibited driver from the Highway, issued two 90-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions and three 3-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions. Two vehicles were impounded for excessive speed, 11 drugs seizures were made and 57 violation tickets and 83 written warnings were issued.

Clearwater RCMP Traffic Services will be conducting enforcement initiatives throughout the holidays and well into the New Year and motorists can expect to see an increased presence of road checks in the area.

Police would like to remind motorists to be prepared as winter driving conditions settle in and ensure your vehicle is adequately equipped with winter tires, anticipate poor road conditions and drive accordingly. If you are traveling long distances, pack warm clothes, extra food, have an emergency kit and give yourself extra time to get to your destination safely.

This year if you are planning on drinking, please do not drive. Find alternative ways home such as public transit, cabs or a designated driver to ensure that you, and people sharing the road with you, get to their destination safely, says Corporal Steven Schenkeveld of the Central Interior Traffic Services, and please make it your habit to drive sober every time you get behind the wheel.
