File # 2017-6257

On December 5, 2017, Officers from Port Mann Traffic Services were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 1 near 192nd Street in Surrey when a vehicle was observed traveling at excessive speed in the HOV lane. Officers conducted a traffic stop however, when they approached the vehicle, it sped off at high speed. In the interests of public safety, the Officers did not pursue the vehicle, however enough information was obtained from that brief contact to initiate an investigation.

Enter the Prohibited Driver Enforcement Team (PDET) which was established to focus their enforcement initiatives on prolific prohibited drivers. Armed with the information it received from Port Mann Traffic Services, PDET wasted no time in locating the vehicle two days later, occupied and running at a residence...and the Officers found more than they expected!

The occupant of the vehicle was arrested without incident and is facing numerous charges with respect to prohibited driving, possession of stolen property, breach of probation and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. The vehicle has been seized and the individual remains in custody.

This is a great example of teamwork and demonstrates the impact we can have on removing high risk offending drivers, many of whom are very active criminals, from our roadways in our ongoing efforts to keep our communities and roadways safe, said Inspector Michael Labossiere, Officer in Charge of Lower Mainland Traffic Services.
