RCMP Call on Hibernation Expert
2017-11-21 11:25 PST
As bears are busy eating and foraging for the winter, the Comox Valley RCMP is calling on their own busy bruin for assistance on Saturday, November 25th. Safety Bear will be working a full shift at two community events, which include eating and foraging.
The shift will start at 8:00 am when the eating begins. Safety Bear will attend the Courtenay Legion, located at 367 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, for the Annual Comox Valley Crime Stoppers Breakfast with Santa. Come down to see Safety Bear, who will be handing out stickers, activity books and other fun items. There will be RCMP Members in Red Serge working alongside Safety Bear. Children will have the chance to enter their names for draws and see Santa Claus. This event runs until 11:00 am.
The next duty for Safety Bear will pull on foraging skills. At 1:00 pm, you will find Safety Bear assisting with a Cram the Cruiser event at the Real Canadian Superstore, located at 757 Ryan Road, Courtenay. When not busy meeting with kids, Safety Bear will be foraging for food to Cram into a Police Cruiser, or accepting cash donations on behalf of the Real Canadian Super Store for the Comox Valley Food Bank. This event runs until 5:00 pm and there will be a Hot Dog BBQ, raffle and tours of a police cruiser.
Every member of the RCMP brings a unique skill set when they join stated Cst Rob Gardner, Comox Valley RCMP Community Policing Liaison.
