Police Information Checks with Vulnerable Sector Check

If you will be working or volunteering with vulnerable people such as children, seniors, or persons with disabilities, you may need to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check. This check is done in conjunction with your Police Information Check. Vulnerable Sector Checks will not be conducted on anyone younger than 18 years of age.

Your prospective employer or volunteer organization should tell you if you require a Vulnerable Sector Check. Examples of positions that may require a Vulnerable Sector Check include teachers, social workers, daycare workers, health care workers, and children’s sports coaches.

The police will use the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system as well as their own database to conduct a background search based on your name, gender, and date of birth. If your gender and date of birth match to a pardoned sex offender record, you will be asked to provide fingerprints to confirm your identity. Be assured that this is not an accusation of criminality. Fingerprints are used to confirm your identity only. Your digital fingerprints will not be kept by the RCMP and will be destroyed after 90 days.

You may be asked to provide an additional $25.00 money order, made out to the Receiver General of Canada, if required for fingerprints for private employment working with vulnerable people.

Police Information Checks (PIC) with a Vulnerable Sector check are not available for personal interest and are to be used for volunteer or paid work within Canada only. You must have a request in form of a volunteer letter from your prospective employer or volunteer agency, as indicated above. The fee for a PIC with Vulnerable Sector check is $64.00 and is payable by exact cash, Interac, Visa, or MasterCard. You will need two pieces of government issued identification (one photo ID) and proof of your current address in Prince George.
